Wish Lanterns in a Botanical Garden

Next spring hundreds of wish lanterns will be seen in the Missouri Botanical Garden. Next year between May 26 and August 19 an event called “Art by Day, Magic by Night” will take place at a botanical garden parking lot. This will be the first really large scale lanterns festival in the USA. Many other American cities have hosted Lanterns festivals, but this one will be by far the most spectacular one. Some say that the cost of the festival is close to six figures. The organizers of the festival wanted to draw attention to the Chinese culture and to create this magnificent scenery with the lanterns. The lanterns nowadays can depict Disney characters and action heroes, but the lanterns used in this festival will be the traditional ones – dragons fighting, fairies, and opera singers. There will be pandas, Buddha with four faces, imperial armies, and lotus flowers. The Missouri Botanical Garden has published a book on the Chinese flora and has a Chinese garden. The lanterns festival can draw attention to that too and the publishers believe that this book can one day set the grounds for medical discoveries. The garden officials revealed that the artisans in the festival will be from Zigong, which is the China’s headquarters for lantern making. The art of lantern making is passed on from one generation to another.

If you want to feel the magic of the wish lanterns and cannot wait for next year, order some from us – get ready for the biggest lantern festival.
