Wishlanterns exceed NY Pollution Regulations

Coming into summer our Flying Wishlanterns are one of our most popular products and as such are often used at weddings and events near coastal locations.

We recently got in touch with a member of the New York Marine Events and Permitting Waterways Management Division whom advised that our lanterns meet or exceed the pollution regulations in the NYC area, we thought as much but it’s always great to hear it coming from someone official :)

To ensure your event is action packaged and incident free we always recommend checking your local regulations and notifying the coast guard or airport if you launch is within 5 miles of the sea or airport.

Hawaiian Memorial Day Lanterns

hawaiian-floating-lanterns-memorial-dayMemorial Day is a special time all across America including on the Islands of Hawaii.

This May 28th between 6pm & 7.30pm more than 3000 floating lanterns will be launch, 2000 of these lanterns are available for the the public to get involved and launch a lantern out from the shores of Al Moana Beach.

Lantern Floating Hawaii is an organization with the aim to give people a personal moment to reflect, remember and offer gratitude to those that came before us. It is a chance to be surrounded by people in a caring environment and share some of the same emotions, memories and feelings.

The lanterns are hand made with the help of local volunteers including the Moanalua High School LEO Club, Radfort High School Global Studies and other dedicated and kind people. Below is a few images of the lanterns being constructed and a photo of the beautiful lanterns being launched into the bay. Some lanterns contain handwritten messages, poems and prayers as they twinkle and float gently with the summer tide.

Relay for Life Candle Bags

Candle bags are lit by Relay for Life Members to remember loved ones lost to cancer as well as to honor those fighting the disease. We were recently made aware of the ‘Dedicate a Luminaria’ campaign and were touched by this idea.

Simple white Luminaria or Candle Bags are personalized with a name, photo, message or drawing in memory or honor of a loved one affected by cancer. They are illuminated after dark at every Relay for Life event.

Participants walk the track lined with luminara bags in reflection, a caregiver who has lost a loved one may find comfort from a fellow caregiver who has faced a similar loss. A survivor gains strength and hope from others who have followed the same journey and survived.

All resolve to continue the battle to save more lives so no more candlebags bear the names of those lost to the disease. Watch the Relay for Life video below for more information and find out how you can get involved in your local event.

New Years Resolution Wishlantern

Well the year is almost up, Pretty soon it’ll be 2012 and on with all the adventures that the new year will bring. Here at Wishlantern we look forward to the upcoming challenges that lay ahead so when one of our customers shared his plans for a new years resolution Wishlantern launch we thought it was a great idea. No bias obviously ;)

Whether you plan to loose a few of those extra pounds from that second helping of Christmas pudding, meet that special someone or you want to visit a new or favorite holiday spot what cooler way to make that commitment than with a New Years Wishlantern Launch.

Here’s our suggestion:

  1. Get together a group of your closest friends or family members (it’s much more motivating if you’ve got witnesses! and of course it adds to the fun…)
  2. Decide on a worthy resolution for the new year
  3. Unfold and decorate a Wishlantern with your New Years Resolution, we find that soft tip markers work great. Feel free to get creative here, mix up the colors and designs (chocolate fish prize for the best looking lantern?)
  4. Once everyone is done with the decorating you can launch them off into the sky, around dusk on new years eve is a great time to light the night sky with your wishes.
  5. Achieve your resolution – easier said than done but try to follow through with your resolution in 2012. It’s amazing how much clearer a goal is once you’ve committed it to writing.

Decorate for Halloween

Whether you are planning a Halloween party or simply want to get the home ready for the upcoming holiday, there are many great ways to prepare the home and overall atmosphere. Firstly, don’t forget to order a Wish Lantern to be released on Halloween, we’ve got great Halloween themed lanterns that look like pumpkins. Take a look at the following ideas that you can apply to your home:

Gather leaves from the nearby trees. Their colors are perfect to match the Halloween atmosphere and are great for crafts, whether it’s to make a beautiful wreath or string them on a string to make garlands. They are great for decorating your home or dinner table with a beautiful basket with Fall themed details.

Halloween wreath is easy to make, take the leaves that you have gathered, some construction paper, and if you have a craft store nearby so cutout black cats, ghosts, and pumpkins. Get some dry sticks and create the base of your wreath if you do not have one that you’ve purchased from the store. Then decorate with the leaves and the extra details you’ve purchased.

Wish Lantern record launch in poland

In June 2011 the Polish city of Poznan gathered for a mass launch of more than 11’000 Skylanterns to achieve the world record. This spectacular event gathered the community for a beautiful evening. some decorated lanterns with wishes and messages.
